CAPE TOWN, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in South African major media outlets on Friday.

-- Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Thursday announced the results of the National Senior Certificate examinations at a media briefing in Pretoria.

The Independent Examinations Board's 2018 pass rate is 98.92 percent - a slight increase on last year's pass rate of 98.76 percent.(Independent Online)

-- Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane said on Thursday his party's immigration plan involves securing the country's borders.
