WARSAW, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Fire departments have inspected 325 escape rooms across Poland, of which 26 have been ordered to close, said a spokesman of Poland's State Fire Service (PSP) on Monday.

The inspection focused on the emergency evacuation conditions, the fire extinguishing equipment and the legally required periodic inspections of utility installations, including gas and electrical installations and ventilation.

During the country-wide action over the weekend, more than one thousand irregularities were detected by the authorities, of which 406 were associated with evacuation, said PSP spokesman Pawel Fratczak.

The Minister of Investment and Economic Development, Jerzy Kwiecinski, told a press conference on Monday that a structural inspection of escape rooms across the country was also under way, with reports expected on Friday.

Operating an escape room in Poland does not require much today. However, the authorities are understood to be determined to change this situation after last Friday's tragic fire in the northwest city Koszalin, in which five teenage girls were killed while playing in an escape room.

The owner of one of the escape rooms, Karolina Matuszewska, admitted in an interview with Polish TV station TVN24 that she did not have to possess either a permit from the fire department or a building permission when she started the business.

Escape rooms are popular among Polish teenagers. In this physical adventure game, players are locked in a room and given a set time limit to solve a series of riddles to get out.
