TOKYO, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 223.02 points, or 1.1 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 20,427.06.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 16.68 points, or 1.1 percent, to finish at 1,535.11.
Pharmaceutical, pulp and paper, and precision instrument-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
