BISHKEK, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan will declare 2019 the Year of Regional Development and Digitalization of the Country, the president's press service said on Wednesday.
President Sooronbai Jeenbekov will sign the related decree within the week, the press service said in a statement.
"2019 has been declared the 'Year of Regional Development and Digitalization of the Country' with a view to further developing the regions and introducing new technologies into the daily life of society," the president was quoted as saying.
Kyrgyzstan had previously declared the year 2018 the year of regional development in the country to promote regional development, job creation, and entrepreneurship in rural areas. The president said such efforts will be carried on and strengthened this year.
Jeenbekov said it is going to be part of the state policy to promote the adoption of new technologies.
"Digital technologies will permeate all walks of life. Digital infrastructure will significantly reduce the direct contact of citizens with officials, which is the main tool for the eradication of corruption," he said.
