TOKYO, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened lower on Thursday as investors opted to secure recent gains made following the market's recent winning streak, with sentiment slightly dampened by a comparatively firm yen against the U.S. dollar.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 164.18 points, or 0.80 percent, from Wednesday to 20,262.88.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 13.70 points, or 0.89 percent, at 1,521.41.

Rubber product, nonferrous metal and insurance-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
