TOKYO, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened marginally lower Tuesday as investor sentiment was dented by U.S. shares losing ground overnight.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 25.23 points, or 0.12 percent, from Friday to 20,334.47.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged 2.47 points, or 0.16 percent, lower to 1,527.26.

Mining, metal product, and pulp and paper-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.

Markets here were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
