LOS ANGELES, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Citrus College in the Los Angeles eastern suburb on Tuesday afternoon had one person detained and remained locked down after receiving a threat of shooting, according to its official twitter account.

Shawna Celello, spokeswoman for the Glendora Police Department, was quoted by local newspaper San Gabriel Valley Tribune as saying that police received the threat call against Citrus College at 11:18 a.m. (1918 GMT), and lockdown ensued in the community university and nearby Azusa Pacific University in the city of Azusa.

"If you are not on campus, stay away. Go to the nearest room, turn off lights, lock door, and remain quiet. Remain locked down until an All Clear has been issued," Citrus College tweeted, shortly before noon Tuesday,

So far the lockdown has been lifted in Azusa Pacific University. "Police activity in the area continues," it tweeted.

Pictures online showed that a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team of local police was clearing out classes on the campus and that a bomb robot was running outside the college, while students' parents were waiting in a nearby street for information.

Police did not confirm reports of an active shooter, saying "Officers are still methodically searching the campus, (and) We're asking the public to stay away."
