UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Security Council on Wednesday adopted a resolution to establish a UN mission to support the Hodeidah agreement between the Yemeni government and Houthi rebels.
Resolution 2452, which won unanimous support of the 15 members of the council, decides to establish a special political mission, for an initial period of six months, to support the implementation of the agreement in the city of Hodeidah and ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa as set out in the Stockholm Agreement.
The Security Council last month authorized an advance team for 30 days to monitor and support the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement, reached in UN-brokered talks in Sweden.
The Yemeni government and Houthi rebels agreed on a cessation of hostilities in the Hodeidah governorate and the mutual redeployment of forces from Hodeidah city and the ports of Hodeidah, Salif and Ras Issa. They also agreed on a mechanism for the exchange of prisoners and reached an understanding on the city of Taiz, another frontline city.
