U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly higher

NEW YORK, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Wednesday with eight of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of SINA Corporation and NetEase climbed 3.61 percent and 2.91 percent, respectively, leading the gainers in the top 10 stocks of the index.

Shares of BeiGene, Ltd. and TAL Education Group decreased 2.10 percent and 0.96 percent, respectively, the only two decliners in the top 10 stocks of the index.

U.S. stocks rallied on Wednesday as the market mood was fueled by a slew of upbeat earnings results from major banks including Goldman Sachs and Bank of America.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 141.57 points, or 0.59 percent, to 24,207.16. The S&P 500 was up 5.80 points, or 0.22 percent, to 2,616.10. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 10.86 points, or 0.15 percent, to 7,034.69.

The Cboe Volatility index, widely considered the best fear gauge in the stock market, increased 2.37 percent to 19.04 on Wednesday.

As of Tuesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 2,419.30, marking a 5.59-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 5.59-percent gain for the year-to-date returns.
