LONDON, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Seven-time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan reached the semifinals of the Masters snooker tournament after beating Ryan Day 6-3 at Alexandra Palace here on Thursday.

World number three O'Sullivan, bidding for his fourth title of the season, won the opening frame with a break of 68 before Day fought back strongly with 54 and 68 to lead 2-1. O'Sullivan regained the lead with 74 and 119.

Day, ranked 13th in the world, levelled the score to 3-3 with a 77 but O'Sullivan regained the lead with a run of 65.

Welshman Day looked set to make it 4-4 when he led 66-0. But he misjudged a safety shot and O'Sullivan took advantage with a rapid 78 clearance. A break of 92 in the ninth helped O'Sullivan seal the victory.

The Rocket will meet China's Ding Junhui or Luca Brecel of Belgium in the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.
