TOKYO, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks gained ground Monday morning, tracking gains on Wall Street late last week, with sentiment also buoyed by a weaker yen versus the U.S. dollar and solid Chinese retail sales data for December.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 92.67 points, or 0.45 percent, from Friday to 20,758.74.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 12.24 points, or 0.79 percent, at 1,569.83.
Oil and coal product, mining, and marine transportation-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
