SYDNEY, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Australian almond producers have been reaping the benefits of greater overseas demand, as production is expected to rise by 13,000 tons this harvest year, an official told Xinhua on Monday.

China is the biggest export destination for Australian almonds, taking over from India in November of 2018.

The Australian almond market has attracted a number of new players from other agricultural areas in recent years, with trees planted three years ago beginning to yield this harvest.

"There's been some new players into the industry, some smaller growers who have swung out of other industries such as wine grapes," Almond Board of Australia Chairman Neale Bennett explained.
