WINDHOEK, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- A cultural and art troupe from southwestern China's Yunnan Province has staged a thrilling performance in the festivity of the Chinese Lunar New Year at the National Theater of Namibia.
Tujia ethnic dance, Dai ethnic dance and Yi ethnic song and dance among other dazzling dancing and shows enlivened the audience on Monday night.
Xu Lijuan, a member of the Yunnan Cultural and Art Troupe, said that the spring-themed performance aimed to give the audience a taste of Chinese art, culture and tradition.
"The colorful performance also features the expression of love with flowers and nature," Xu said, adding that the Dai ethnic golden peacock dance represents the diversity of Chinese culture.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the Spring Festival, or Chinese Lunar New Year, falls on Feb. 5 this year.
The Spring Festival is a festival of bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new, and it is the right time to sow seeds. Chinese people believe, at the very beginning of the year, everything takes on a fresh new look, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhang Yiming, said.
People-to-people exchanges account for a vital part of the China-Namibia relations and China is willing to strengthen cultural exchanges with Namibia, he said.
"The relationship between the two countries has been upgraded to a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation. The relationship between the two countries has been on a new high level," Zhang said.
In efforts to build a China-Africa community with a shared future that enjoys cultural prosperity, the Chinese ambassador said cultural exchange programs would be encouraged.
The Yunnan art troupe also performed in Namibia in 2017.
