Blast near U.S. consulate in Geneva due to electrical fault, no injuries: police

GENEVA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Embassy in Bern on Wednesday issued an alert saying there were reports of an explosion in the area around its consular agency in Geneva, but local police said the matter arose due to an electrical fault.

A Geneva police spokesman said the explosion was triggered after a fault in electrical wiring around an underground installation in the center of the city, but there were no injuries.

The U.S. consular agency is in the Geneva downtown area near where the reported explosion took place.
