MOSCOW, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Russia's telecommunications watchdog Roskomnadzor said Tuesday that it had detected violations in broadcasting procedures of British news outlet BBC World News in Russia.

"We have conducted an unscheduled audit regarding the British Television, the broadcaster of the BBC World News in Russia. Certain violations have been revealed," said Roskomnadzor in a statement.

The watchdog is currently making an assessment and will lay out measures it will take later, it added.

In December, Roskomnadzor initiated an inspection of BBC World News and BBC online resources to check if the British broadcaster is in compliance with relevant licensing and regulatory requirements, which is in response to Britain's accusation of Russia's RT broadcaster breaching impartiality rules.

Russia has recently strengthened restrictions on foreign legal entities operating in the country. In early December, Roskomnadzor decided to impose a fine of 500,000 rubles (about 7,664 U.S. dollars) on Google for its failure to remove links to prohibited information from search results as required by Russian law.
