LONDON, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Friday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.74 percent, or 51.37 points, to close at 7,020.22 points.
Melrose Industries, a London-based company that specializes in buying and improving underperforming businesses, soared 3.68 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips.
Coca-Cola HBC AG-DI and CRH increased by 3.01 percent and 2.74 percent, respectively.
Fresnillo, a Mexican-based precious metals mining company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 3.44 percent.
GVC, a multinational sports betting and gaming group, dropped 1.12 percent. Glencore, an Anglo-Swiss multinational commodity trading and mining company, fell 1.05 percent.
