BRUSSELS, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Joining a long list of European cities partaking in Chinese New Year celebrations, the historic old quarter of Liege in Belgium hosted a New Spring parade on Tuesday evening.
Across the city, bright red, oval-shaped lanterns decorated the walls, while lion dances were staged to the delight of large crowds.
The festive occasion was attended by 300-odd guests, including Cao Zhongming, ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Kingdom of Belgium, who, in his opening address, described the Spring Festival as an embodiment of "family values", "happiness and harmony" and "unity of man and nature".
He stressed that such occasions helped promote cultural relations between countries, and hoped that the New Spring festival will help Belgians explore different facets of Chinese culture.
Later, a Chinese New Year gala performance was staged at the Cite Miroir, a local cultural landmark, where young artists from the Shanghai Theatre Academy put on a display of dancing, singing, Chinese opera and instrumental musical performances.
