WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Five juveniles have been charged with criminal homicide for Thursday's fatal shooting of a local musician outside his home in Nashville, state of Tennessee, authorities said Friday.

The investigation shows that the five were in a stolen pickup truck in an alley that runs behind the home of local musician Kyle Yorlets when they spotted him outside, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said in a press release.

The juveniles interacted with Yorlets, took his wallet, and ultimately demanded that he surrender the keys to his vehicle, according to the release. "It is believed that he was fatally shot after he refused."

Yorlets managed to get inside his home and was found by one of his roommates at about 3 p.m. local time (2100 GMT). He was later taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police recovered the stolen pickup truck by Thursday evening and arrested the suspects at a Walmart in West Nashville.

A loaded 9-millimeter pistol was recovered from the suspects, as well as a second loaded pistol which was recovered from inside the store. Both firearms were reported stolen.

According to Tennessee law, three of the five were identified by police because of their ages and the charges they face. The oldest suspect is 16 while the youngest is 12.

Yorlets, a 24-year-old Pennsylvania native, was a Belmont University student in Nashville and a member of a local band named Carverton.

"We are in a state of shock and are having to grasp the reality that is now in front of us," his bandmates said a statement posted on Twitter. "We will never forget Kyle, and though he is gone too soon his legacy is here to stay."
