BERLIN, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- On the occasion of the European 112 day, fire brigades across Germany will be logging all operations via Twitter for 12 hours on Monday.

"We want to inform people that the free emergency number 112 not only stands for fast, reliable help in Germany, but throughout Europe," explained Frank Hachemer, vice president of the German Firefighter Association (DFV).

In addition to Germany's largest fire brigade in Berlin, 41 professional fire brigades of the German cities of Munich, Hamburg, Duesseldorf, Bremen and Frankfurt am Main in total are taking part in the digital campaign called "Twitter storm".

Berlin's fire brigade is answering calls on 60 emergency lines, amounting to more than 2,000 calls per day. "We experience disrespect every day, but we also enjoy respect and prestige every day", said Frederic Finner, spokesperson of Berlin fire brigade.

In Berlin alone, the fire brigade was deployed for more than 458,000 missions in 2017, almost 4,000 more than in the previous year.

In Germany, like in most European countries, making an unfounded emergency call deliberately constitutes a criminal offence and a liability to pay compensation to the rescue organizations involved.
