BEIRUT, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- The American embassy in Lebanon announced Wednesday that the Lebanese army received from the United States a 16-million-U.S. dollar shipment of Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS), local media reported.

"These rockets constitute an important component of the A-29 Super Tucano aircraft that belongs to the Lebanese air forces," according to online independent newspaper Elnashra.

The embassy said that the delivery of this shipment reflects once again the strong commitment by the U.S. government to support the Lebanese army as the only defender of Lebanon.

The United States is the biggest provider of military aid to Lebanon, as the Lebanese army has received a total of 1.5 billion U.S. dollars in military aid from successive American administrations since the 2006 war with Israel.
