2 dead, 1 injured in car shooting on Philippines' busy highway

MANILA, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Two men were killed and another woman injured when unidentified gunmen aboard a motorcycle fired at a traveling car along EDSA highway in Mandaluyong City of the Philippines on Sunday, authorities said.

According to the police, the white van pulled out of a gasoline station when armed men riding tandem on a black motorcycle pumped bullets at the passenger side of the van around 3:25 p.m..

The two killed included the driver and a 62-yeard-old passenger who the police said was a businessman.

The woman passenger survived the attack and is now recuperating from a gun wound in a nearby hospital, a police officer told reporters.

Initial investigation said the van came from Clark City in Pampanga province, north of Manila. An investigation is under way to determine the motive of the attack.
