KUWAIT CITY, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Thursday issued a decree to release 161 prisoners on different charges, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior said.
The move comes on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of National Day and the 28th anniversary of Liberation Day of the Arab country, the ministry said in a statement.
The 161 prisoners will be released from Feb. 25, it said, noting that the decree also involves the reduction of penalties for 545 others.
The aim of the order is to give a chance to those who are released to benefit the society, the statement noted.
