TIRANA, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Political instability has a negative impact on Albania's economy, the Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, said on Friday commenting on the current situation in the country.

According to Sejko, economic reforms require political stability.

"Every political crisis and political destabilization would have its effects on the economy as well. We as the central bank call for political stability in order to keep the economy, reforms and prosperity of all our forecasts for economic growth to continue successfully," Sejko said.

The Albanian opposition parties have been staging repeated protests in recent days, calling on the Socialist-led government to resign and demanding new elections. On Thursday, 56 opposition lawmakers relinquished their mandates.

Sejko made the statement during the promotion ceremony of the book "Money, banks and society", written by Albania's former finance minister Anastas Angjeli and Prof. Aristotel Pano.
