ADDIS ABABA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The African Union (AU) and Uruguay on Friday deliberated on ways of enhancing partnership and working together in bilateral, regional and international domains.

This came during a meeting between the Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, Kwesi Quartey, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Raul Pollak, at the AU headquarters in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, according to an AU statement on Saturday.

The two sides have also discussed issues related to regional peace and security.

Underlining the need to advancing the collaboration between AU and Uruguay, the Deputy Chairperson expressed AU's keen interest to enhance partnership with Uruguay in a number of areas, including cooperation on agriculture and agri-business sectors.

Quartey briefed Pollak about the priorities of the AU Commission, highlighting the ongoing institutional reforms of the Union, the integration agenda and domestic resource mobilization policy implementation, all aimed at driving the realization of equitable and inclusive socio-economic transformation and development of the continent.

He also noted the progress made with the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and the incentive mechanisms to advance the economic integration on the continent.

Hailing AU's commitment to the principles of South-South cooperation, Pollak expressed Uruguay's resolve to working closely with AU in bilateral, regional and international domains, including the fight against terrorism and tackling climate change.
