KABUL, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan sent its first shipment of up to 570 tons of goods to India through the Chabahar Port in neighboring Iran, the state-run TV RTA reported Sunday.

"Afghanistan is turning to an exporting country from an importing one and that the language of connection is the language of the economy," Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani told an inauguration ceremony held in Zaranj, the capital of Afghanistan's western Nimroz province.

Afghan officials, traders, local elders and ambassadors from Iran and India as well as envoys from the regional countries attended the ceremony.

The Afghan leader said that his government was determined in bringing reforms to help improve export and enhance the private sector in the land-locked country, adding the move will bring further prosperity to the province bordering Iran, 790 km southwest of Kabul.

Much of the shipment loaded in 23 trucks were Afghan talc stones as previously exported to Asian, European and western countries.

Chabahar Port is a seaport located in Chabahar region of southwestern Iran.
