KHARTOUM, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Sudanese police said illegal gatherings in the capital Khartoum and other areas were dealt with according to the law on Thursday.
Cases have been opened against a number of those who illegally gathered, said Hashim Abdel-Rahim, Sudanese police spokesman, in a statement.
On Feb. 25, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir issued an emergency order, which bans "unlicensed" public gatherings, marches, strikes and sabotage of public facilities, including closing public roads and crippling traffic.
It also bans diminishing the sovereignty of the state or any of its symbols, organs or employees by any means.
On Feb. 22, al-Bashir declared the state of emergency all over Sudan for one year in the wake of popular protests which the country has been witnessing since Dec. 19 last year over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
