ACCRA, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo on Friday congratulated Macky Sall on his re-election as President of Senegal.

Senegal's National Commission for the Census of Votes announced Thursday that the incumbent president Macky Sall was re-elected as president of the West African country, earning 58.27 percent of the vote in the presidential election held on Feb. 24.

"It is well-deserved, and a vindication of the trust and confidence reposed in him, and in his program of economic transformation, by the Senegalese people," Akufo-Addo said in a statement.

He said Senegal had in recent years recorded strong economic growth rates and rapid infrastructural development.

He expressed the hope that under Sall's leadership, Senegal will continue to reinforce its position as one of the champions of progress and prosperity in West Africa and on the African continent.

"I look forward to working closely with him to enhance Ghanaian-Senegalese relations, improve the living conditions of our two peoples, advance their mutual interests, and promote the wider interests of the African peoples."
