S.Korea's consumer price rises 0.5 pct in February

SEOUL, March 5 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's consumer price rose 0.5 percent in February from a year earlier on lower prices for oil product and vegetable, a government report showed Tuesday.

The consumer price index stood at 104.69 in February, up 0.5 percent from a year ago, according to Statistics Korea. It was the lowest increase since August 2016.

The consumer price inflation continued to decline from 2 percent in November last year to 1.3 percent in December and 0.8 percent in January, respectively.

Oil product price tumbled 11.3 percent, marking the fastest fall since May 2016. It pulled down the overall headline inflation by 0.51 percentage points.

Gasoline price plunged 14.2 percent, and with prices for diesel and liquified petroleum gas (LPG) sliding 8.9 percent and 9.9 percent each.

Vegetable price dropped 15.1 percent in February from a year earlier, lowering the overall headline inflation by 0.27 percentage points.
