HANOI, March 7 (Xinhua) -- Some pigs in Vietnam's northern Hoa Binh province have recently been infected with the African swine fever (ASF), and all infected pigs have been culled to prevent the spread of the disease, the province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said on Thursday.

The outbreak of ASF was detected at a farming household in Luong Son district of Hoa Binh province, and all 15 affected pigs were culled.

To date, ASF has affected over 200 farming families and small pig farms in eight localities in Vietnam's northern region, including capital Hanoi, Hai Phong city, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh provinces, leading to the culling of over 4,200 pigs, according to the Department of Animal Health under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

On Monday, at a conference on measures to curb ASF in Vietnam, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said a fight against the animal epidemic should be treated like fighting enemies, with the vigorous participation of agencies and sectors at different levels.
