DAR ES SALAAM, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese community in Tanzania's commercial capital Dar es Salaam on Friday shared experience with local women at an exhibition to mark the International Women's Day.

To mark the occasion, Women Visual Artists from Nafasi Art Space and Vipaji Gallery, in collaboration with the China Cultural Center in Tanzania presented the exhibition called "Know Your Worth."

The exhibition is about Tanzanian women who recognize, understand and appreciate their self-worth and self-expression.

Ruth Sabai, a curator with Nafasi Art Space, a vibrant art center and platform for artistic exchange in Dar es Salaam, said the exhibition was aimed at empowering Tanzanian women to better understand themselves.

"The exhibition is also showing challenges facing women in Tanzania. Challenges that are a hurdle to their development," Sabai told Xinhua in an interview.

"It also shows women who appreciate their awareness and achievements, and their contribution to society," said Sabai.

Gao Wei, Cultural Counsellor with the Chinese Embassy in Tanzania, said the exhibition provided an opportunity for Chinese to learn Tanzanian art.

"The exhibition also provided chance to the Chinese to know how Tanzanian women expressed themselves through art," said Gao, who is also Director of China Cultural Center.

The exhibition will be on display for one week, featuring works of artists, including photographers, poets, wood and metal sculptors and painters.
