TIRANA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said Monday that the government will take part in the fight against the soccer violence in stadiums.

The prime minister promised to make amendments in the penal code under which the violent fans will be sent to prison.

"The English model is the appropriate one to give an end to violence and hooliganism in stadiums," Rama said.

Together with cabinet ministers, local authorities and Albanian federation representatives Rama held a discussion on how to solve the problem with the violence in Albanian stadiums after the decision of the Albanian soccer federation on Friday to suspend all matches.

Armand Duka, the head of the soccer federation told reporters the matches may resume this week in the cup competition.

The referee association in Albania decided to boycott the matches due to violence against one of their colleagues two weeks ago.

The referee association said it wants police to control stadium security after the "failed experiment" with private firms.

Last week, the federation fined and expelled the club FK Kamza and three officials from this season's championship after the violence against referee Eldorjan Hamiti who was hit several times in the league match between FK Kamza and KF Lace, which ended 1-1 after the visitors were awarded a late penalty.
