UNITED NATIONS, March 12 (Xinhua) -- A senior South African diplomat said here on Tuesday that multilateralism serves as a core pillar of the country's foreign policy and it stays committed to strengthening multilateralism through inter-organizational cooperation.

The international community played an "indispensable role" in the liberation of all South Africans and the fight against apartheid, Jerry Matjila, South Africa's permanent representative to the UN told a Security Council meeting on cooperation between the world body and regional or sub-regional organizations.

Without efforts of regional and international organizations, none of the progresses would have been made, he added.

Matjila called for more cooperation among the African Union (AU), the European Union (EU) and the UN, saying the trilateral partnership could better promote cooperation between UN and other organizations.
