TEHRAN, March 13 (Xinhua) -- A senior Iranian security official on Wednesday warned that "suspicious nuclear programs" are being carried out by some countries in the Middle East region, Tasnim news agency reported.

"Some countries in the region have put suspicious nuclear programs on their agenda, spending their petrodollars (on such programs)," Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, was quoted as saying.

"Such moves can cause not only the region but also the world to face a threat and crisis worse than the threat of terrorists," Shamkhani added.

However, the Iranian official did not give the names of suspected countries.

Recently, Western media revealed a proposal by the U.S. government to transfer U.S. nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia.

Iran is monitoring "unusual activities" in the region and will adjust its military strategy to meet the needs of new developments, Shamkhani concluded.
