BAGHDAD, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Global consultancy Mercer published on Wednesday the 2019 Quality of Living Ranking which showed that the Iraqi capital Baghdad ranked at the bottom of the world's 231-city list.

Mercer's report based on several factors to evaluate nearly 500 global destinations such as recreation, housing, economic environment, consumer goods availability, public services and transport, according to the report.

"Despite being the bottom of the quality of living list, Baghdad has witnessed significant improvements related to safety and health services," the report said.

In the annual ranking report, Vienna topped the list as world's best city to live in. In the Middle East region, Dubai ranked 74, Damascus ranked 225 and Sanaa ranked 229.

Since the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003, endless waves of violence and widespread corruption have plagued the city of Baghdad.

The city's residents are still suffering from many hurdles including electricity shortages, crippled infrastructure and unemployment.
