HERAT, Afghanistan, March 18 (Xinhua) -- About 800 newly graduated Afghan soldiers joined the country's national army in western province of Herat on Monday, an army source said.

"The graduates, who received their certificate during a ceremony at army's Corps 207 Zafar in Herat Monday morning, will join Afghan National Army to serve their nation and ensure peace in their country," commander of Zafar Corps, Gen. Noorullah Qaderi, told Xinhua.

The newly graduates had received a three-month training period in the corps training center in Herat, he said, adding that they would be deployed to the western provinces of Herat, Badghis, Farah and Ghor.

The latest graduates brought the number of soldiers to 2,500 who have been graduated from the Zafar Corps military training center within the past one year, he said.

The graduation will boost the capacity of the Afghan army and enable the security forces to further check subversive activities, Qaderi said.
