DAR ES SALAAM, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian Parliament Speaker Job Ndugai on Monday praised Simba Sports Club for making it to the quarterfinals of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League, saying the feat has made the country's football to be known across Africa.

"Last Saturday's resounding victory by Simba that qualified the team to the CAF quarterfinals was not only historic but it also made Tanzanian soccer to be known across Africa and beyond," Ndugai said.

On Saturday, Zambian Clatous Chama scored in the final minute to secure the Dar es Salaam outfit a 2-1 home victory over AS Vita Club of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and a second place in Group D behind Al Ahly of Egypt.

With the victory, Simba became the first Tanzanian club to reach the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.

"As millions of people across the world watch football on daily basis, Simba's historic win has definitely written Tanzania's name on the world soccer map," Ndugai said.

Reigning champions Esperance of Tunisia and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa had already secured quarterfinal spots, leaving six places up for grabs in the final matches last on Saturday where Al Ahly and Simba were joined by Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Horoya AC of Guinea, TP Mazembe of DR Congo and CS Constantine of Algeria.
