RIO DE JANEIRO, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Corinthians full-back Fagner was Monday called up to Brazil's squad for friendlies against Panama and the Czech Republic.

The 29-year-old replaces Dani Alves, who withdrew after suffering a left knee injury while playing for Paris Saint-Germain in their 3-1 victory over Marseille in Ligue 1 on Sunday.

Alves was hoping to make his first appearance for Brazil in almost a year, having ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his right knee before last year's World Cup in Russia.

The 35-year-old is expected to miss at least a month with his latest injury.

Fagner earned the last of his eight Brazil caps in the Selecao's 2-1 defeat to Belgium in the quarterfinals of last year's World Cup in Russia.

Brazil will meet Panama in Porto, Portugal, on Saturday and the Czech Republic in Prague three days later.
