NAIROBI, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Rockies Victor Korir and Charles Kamau will lead Kenya's charge in the 10,000m race as part of the 52 member-team selected for the Africa Under-18 and Under-20 Junior athletics championships to be held next month in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.

The two-day event gave Kenyan coaches a glimpse of the new talent off the production line as the country seeks to firm its grip for the elementary continental competition ahead of next year's World Junior Championships, which will be held in Nairobi.

The IAAF Under-20 World Championships in Nairobi have been scheduled for July 7-12 in 2020.

However, the juniors have a date with destiny in Abidjan as continental bragging rights are up for battle with giants Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Morocco and Algeria all keen to name strong sides of their next generation of international stars.

The teams will represent Kenya in the two championships, which will be held concurrently from April 13-20.

The top two athletes across the line made the youth championships (Under-18) team automatically while those going for the Africa Junior (Under-20) were subjected to qualifying standards.

Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), has said 28 countries have confirmed participation in the two competitions in Abidjan.
