DOHA, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) will open this week, Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, chairperson of the Qatar Museums, announced on Monday.

The museum, which was built in the shape of a desert rose, cost a total of 434 million U.S. dollars.

"Qatar is proud to open the museum, which will serve as a platform for dialogues between Qatar and people around the world," said Al-Thani.

It took almost a decade to build and enrich the collection of the museum, and "it is time to honor the artists and filmmakers who have helped complete the museum," she said in a press release.

The museum's local partners include heritage experts, archaeologists, biologists, historians and political scientists from various universities and organizations.

The opening ceremony of the museum will be attended by Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.
