WINDHOEK, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese community residing in Namibia said they are willing to be part of the upcoming 2019 Windhoek Annual Cultural Festival.
The event is scheduled to take place from June 26 to 30 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in the capital Windhoek.
The annual event aims to promote Namibian culture, while empowering youth with regard to entrepreneurship, social empowerment, creativity and innovation.
The cultural event also aims to teach others more about the different cultures in Namibia. It also aims to promote cultures from outside the country.
In an interview Monday, Wang Bai is pleased about the event, saying it will give him the opportunity to network with more Namibians.
"I have been living in Namibia for more than two years now. I really don't have the time to network with more Namibians apart from those who work with me. I am thankful for the event."
"I believe that it is very important to get to know more about the people who I am living in the same country with," Wang said excited.
Zhao Cuifen said she is looking forward to getting a taste of Namibia's drinks and food.
"I have tasted Namibian drinks and food before. I love it, because it is home-made and very delicious," Zhao said.
Li Yang is not residing in Namibia, but he said he is also looking forward to attending the cultural fun-filled event.
"I believe in culture. I feel that it is very important to know each others' cultures. What I find very interesting about the world is the fact that we all are different."
The newly initiated festival calls for interested exhibitors to apply for stalls, encouraging artists to perform during the festival to apply. The festival will be held under the theme "diversity".
Organizers said the reason why they came up with the theme is because there will be a variety of cultural activities on offer.
The initiator of the festival, Silvester Shapwa, said their aim is to promote Namibian culture, while empowering youth through entrepreneurship, social empowerment, and creativity.
Shapwa said the festival is not only hosted for Namibians.
"We are encouraging people from outside Namibia to also attend the festival. It is the first time that such an event is held in Namibia."
"This would be a great learning experience for those who know little about the Namibian cultures. Namibia has diverse cultures," he said.
Shapwa said there will be different cultural performances and international cuisines will also be available.
