BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Here is a list of things you can do in China Sunday to enjoy the country's rich cultural life in terms of shows, concerts, exhibitions and events.
-- Listen to concert performed by China National Symphony Orchestra at the National Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.
The China National Symphony Orchestra is a national orchestra established from the former Central Orchestra (founded in 1956) with support from the government in 1996. "Die Meistersinger von Nuernberg (Without Lyrics)" will be played at the concert.
-- Watch Quju Opera "Dragon Beard Ditch" at the National Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m.
Adapted from Laoshe's work of the same title, Dragon Beard Ditch is a realistic play as an ode to the Chinese people. It tells tremendous life changes of residents living in compounds occupied by many households in Beijing after liberation in Beijing dialect and style.
-- Watch Broadway musical "School of Rock" at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in Beijing at 7:30 p.m.
Based on the hit movie of the same title, this musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a supply teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight A students into a rock band.
-- Listen to concert performed by Franz Welser-Most and the Cleveland Orchestra at the Shanghai Symphony Hall in Shanghai at 8:00 p.m.
Referred to as one of the "Big Five", the Cleveland Orchestra is one of the greatest American orchestras. The concert will include Richard Strauss's "Ein Heldenleben", which is one of the conductor Franz Welser-Most's specialities and the seldom-heard "Third Symphony" composed by Prokofiev when the composer was living in France.
-- Catch the last glimpse of the "Celebrating the Spring Festival in the Forbidden City" exhibition at the Palace Museum. The exhibition, part of celebrations for the Spring Festival -- the most important traditional Chinese holiday, will end today after a four-month show.
