NAIROBI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The first batch of 28 outstanding Kenyan employees working for Chinese companies on Monday set off on an eight-day tour of the Asian country sponsored by their employers, with itinerary including visiting major cities like Beijing and Shanghai.

Guo Ce, economic and commercial counsellor at the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, said during the flag-off ceremony that "the outstanding employees travelling today represent some of the best Chinese companies here."

"I believe they are our industry ambassadors who will connect our two countries more closely," Guo said.

More than 20 Chinese enterprises based in Kenya in December 2018 selected 55 outstanding local employees to visit the world's second largest economy as part of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the countries.

Guo said the visit to China by Kenyan employees who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to duty will strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

"I believe after this trip, you will have a deeper understanding of China and Chinese culture, which will help you more in your future work with Chinese companies," Guo told the employees.

The second batch of the rest 27 outstanding Kenyan employees will set off for the tour on April 15 to join their colleagues.

Li Changgui, representative of Kenya-China Economic and Trade Association (KCETA), said the employees who were rewarded with the trip to China include senior managers, technicians and ordinary workers.

"They are all outstanding representatives of Chinese enterprises and the pride of their family," said Li.

He said the Kenyan employees will gain new insight into rich Chinese culture, advanced economy and technological prowess during their trip that will also include stops at headquarters of major corporations like Huawei and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
