NAIROBI, April 9 (Xinhua) -- World junior 1,500m champion George Manangoi from Kenya is eyeing a gold at the Africa Junior Championships, which will be held in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire from April 16-20.

"I have prepared well and I was sure of getting a good performance in Abidjan. I have never participated in any African competitions. So, this is a great opportunity for me," said Manangoi here on Tuesday.

He hopes to atone his miss from the Kenya team to the World Cross Country, by conquering Africa. He also dreams of making his maiden appearance at the World Relay Championships set for Yokohama, Japan, on May 11-12.

"We also have the World Relays Championships, it is an event that I intend to compete in and hopeful play a part in helping the country win a medal," Manangoi said.

The Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) has opted to host both the Africa U-18 and Africa U-20 championships concurrently in Abidjan.

Kenya has since named a team of 45 athletes to represent the country in both championships.
