PARIS, April 11 (Xinhua) -- France on Thursday denied blocking a statement on the European Union's position about Libyan commander Khalifa Haftar's military offensive that renewed conflict in North Africa's leading oil exporter.

At a daily e-press briefing, French foreign ministry spokeswoman Agnes von der Muhll called the remarks as "false allegations".

"France asked the text to be reinforced in three key points for the European Union -- the status of migrant, the involvement in the fighting in Libya of groups under U.N. sanctions for terrorism, and finally the need to reach a political solution under the authority of the United Nations," she added.

The eastern-based army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has launched a military campaign to take over western Libya, particularly Tripoli where the UN-backed government is based.

The operation left so far 56 killed, and thousands were forced to displace, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
