CHICAGO, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) soybean futures closed lower on Tuesday, as traders are awaiting fresh news of trade talks between the United States and China.

The most active soybean contract for May delivery went down 10.75 cents, or 1.2 percent to close at 8.88 dollars per bushel. July corn delivery was down 3.75 cents, or 1.01 percent to close at 3.6775 dollars per bushel. May wheat delivery was down 14.5 cents, or 3.16 percent to close at 4.45 dollars per bushel.

In the soybean market which is heavily reliant on Chinese imports, hopes for a positive outcome from U.S.-China trade talks have underpinned prices.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture(USDA) late Monday said it expected to release its first U.S. soybean planting progress figure for 2019 in next week's crop progress report.

CBOT wheat futures tumbled on technical selling and relatively strong U.S. crop condition ratings, and corn futures declined on ample U.S. and global supplies.

USDA on Monday rated 60 percent of the U.S. winter wheat crop in good to excellent condition, unchanged from the previous week and in line with trade expectations. A year ago, just 31 percent of the crop was rated good to excellent. Enditem
