Top seed Thompson beats Australian compatriot into Kunming Tennis Open fourth round

KUNMING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Australia's Jordan Thompson, the top seed who enjoyed a bye in first two rounds, defeated his compatriot player Max Purcell in the third round of Kunming Tennis Open on Wednesday.

There were eight men's singles 32 to 16 round, including six Australian players. Thompson has participated in this competition for six consecutive years. He is 25 years old and is currently ranked 67th in ATP.

Thompson performed well this season, and broke into the top 16 in the Miami Masters. Thompson did not disappoint the audience, defeating his opponent Purcell 6-3, 6-4 within 78 minutes, advancing to the fourth round.
