BEIJING, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government investigated 1,079 cases in a nationwide crackdown on vulgar content and illegal publications from January to March.
Among the cases, more than 130 were placed under criminal investigation and 541 involved operations online, said the National Office Against Pornographic and Illegal Publications in a statement.
The campaign targeted obscene and pornographic information online, particularly those spread through channels such as online live-streaming, video clips and social networking services.
The office also published six major cases of making, selling and spreading pornography online.
In April, police in east China's Zhejiang Province detained eight suspects for producing and selling more than 100,000 video clips containing obscene content since 2016, and earning over 7 million yuan (about 1 million U.S. dollars).
The remaining cases included pornographic websites and living-streaming apps operated from across the border and social networking services spreading child pornography.
China has launched a new round of crackdown on online pornography, illegal publications for children and fake news outlets running from March to November.
