JOHANNESBURG, April 18 (Xinhua) -- Ten people were killed and two others injured when a speeding mini bus lost control and collided head on with a truck in South Africa's Limpopo Province on Thursday, said local transport department.

Limpopo member of the executive council for transport Makoma Makhurupetje said preliminary investigations suggested that the minibus was speeding and lost control. The minibus was travelling from Zimbabwe to South Africa.

"We have lost ten people in an accident that could have been prevented if the required speed limit was adhered to," said Makhurupetje.

She said that investigations are underway to find out the cause of the accident.

In October last year, 27 people died in a multi-vehicle collision in Limpopo.
