HAIKOU, China, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese speed skating national team has gathered in Wanning, South China's Hainan province, to prepare for the 2019-2020 season under newly appointed head coach Wang Meng.

About 140 athletes have been called up to the national team, including Gao Tingyu, PyeongChang Olympic bronze medalist in men's 500m, and promising skaters like Li Qishi and Jin Jingzhu. Included in the rosters are also three-time Olympic short track speed skating champion Zhou Yang and young talents in the short track event.

On the ceremony, Wang Meng boosted the morale of the team with mottos of ten speed skating Olympic champions, including that of multiple Olympic and world championships gold winner Sven Kramer of the Netherlands, "Being satisfied with silver is not my view on top sport."

"I hope these mottos can help you find inside yourselves the crave for championship," Wang said. "We must join hands together for a better future of Chinese speed skating."

The four-time Olympic short track speed skating champion also announced the members of her coaching team, which comprises over 50 coaches from different countries including the Netherlands, the United States, South Korea, Russia and Serbia.
