MANAMA, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese technology group Wonder News announced on Saturday the launch of its regional headquarters in Bahrain, which will offer services to the clients of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The announcement was made by the Wonder News CEO Ou Zhenxing during a press conference with Shaikh Hisham bin Abdul Rahman Al-Khalifa, head of Capital Governorate which covers Bahrain's capital Manama.

The Chinese company, which focuses on the mobile internet in the Arab world, said it will invest 50 million U.S. dollars and offer 500 employment opportunities in Bahrain over the next three years.

"We have a highly-qualified research and development team which has successfully developed and introduced numerous applications for over 100 million users," said Ou.

According to Shaikh Hisham, the launch of the company's headquarters in Bahrain is the result of a memorandum of understanding signed between Bahrain's Capital Governorate and China's southern city of Shenzhen in September 2016.

Bahrain has attracted several big Chinese names, including the technology giant Huawei and China International Marine Containers Company (CIMC), to invest in the kingdom.

Established in 2015, China-based Wonder News has branches in the Middle East countries including Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
